Notes on Production
Panasonic’s P2 technology enabled the film to move quickly from production to post production, which began in April 2008, and ran for 6 months.
Working purely in the digital domain the 200 digital effects used in the film were created by a small team of digital artists,
using After Effects.
The sound mix for Bad Reception was completed using ProTools.
Bad Reception is the first movie by English writer/director Mark A. Todd.
The film is an ambitious project shot in 26 days, with key locations in: Burbank, Hollywood and El Mirage (Mojave Desert). Director of Photography, Andrew (Drew) Aiello, battled incredibly demanding conditions to create an intense atmosphere for a suspenseful supernatural horror.
The wonderful and talented cast (IMDB) were complimented by the skills of many industry professionals in FX and post production such as:
The film’s original score was written and composed by English composer and musician Roger Smith. Although a first time composer for film, Roger lectures in Music for Film in the UK.
The soundtrack to the film also features some exciting music by LA based artists and bands: Killola, Joshua Lore, and Gayle Day. Two songs in the film are written and performed by actors: ‘Waiting for you’ by Lee Whittaker (Josh) and ‘If’ by Theo Caesar (Det. Abe Johnson).
The making of Bad Reception was a very ‘green’ process. Captured on a digital format, the film remained in the digital domain until completion, when it was laid off to DVD’s for film markets.
